This beautiful, very rare piece of American Civil War history features a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln on this 50 cent fractional currency. Fractional currency became necessary as our country approached the beginning of the Civil War, and citizens began holding onto silver and gold coinage. As it became next to impossible to make change, these fractional currency notes were the solution, and ranged in denominations of 3 cents to 50 cents. There is adhesive on the back of the note.
