RARE 1912 S81 #108 Silk Christy Mathewson SGC Authentic

This is an amazing quality 1912 S81 Christy Mathewson Silk Premium large (7" x 9") tobacco premium, which is graded SGC authentic (they do not give grades to these silks). This is a highly desirable item, especially in such nice condition. These silks were issued as premiums under the Helmar cigarette brand, with the player image printed on satin, often call "silks". The checklist is the same as L1 "Leathers" but with different numbering. Most of the silk images use same pose as T3 Turkey Reds. The S81 "silks" are numbered and have blank backs. This Christy Mathewson is number 108 in the set and presents very boldly and clean - one of the best looking silks we have seen. The S81 silk premiums included a variety of subjects, including 25 baseball players (card numbers 86 through 110). While the silks are commonly believed to be 7? x 9?, smaller sizes have been known to exist that may not have been trimmed. The American Card Catalog also notes this, stating that premiums are either 5? x 7? or 7? x 9?. The silks included a large color picture of the player with his last name, team, and a small checklist number in the upper left corner. The issue is completely jam-packed with stars. In all, more than 60% of the entire set is comprised of Hall of Famers.
