This lot includes 26 vintage boxing cards, including a complete set of 15 cards of 1922 Boys' Friend Rising Boxing Stars, plus (8) 1935 J.A. Pattreiouex Sporting Events & Stars boxing cards, and (3) other boxing cards (inc. 2 British Sporting Profiles cards - Len Harvey and J. Walsh; and a Ardath Tobacco Len Harvey)! These cards were distributed by Boys’ Friend publication, a British tabloid newspaper. The 1922 Boys' Friend cards were given away with the publication with a different card appearing each week during a brief period in 1922 from May 6 through August 12. They are commonly mistaken for being a 1920 set but were distributed in 1922. Backs included the boxer’s name and a biography of the subject. The bottom of the card indicated that another card would be given away the following week. This set includes George Cook (May 6), Johnny Brown (May 13), Johnny Basham (May 20), Charles Penwill (May 27), Charles Ledoux (June 3), Jim Higgins (June 10), Seaman James Hall (June 17), Bugler Lake (June 24), Soldier Horace, Jones (July 1), Arthur Wyns (July 8), Tommy Harrison (July 15), Dick Smith (July 22), Eugene Criqui (July 29), Frank Goddard (August 5), and Bermondsey Billy Wells (August 12). Includes JSA Auction Letter.
